The “Holy Spirit”

Personality is defined as the characteristic patterns of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that make a person unique. Each of us have a very distinctive and unique personality. We might resemble our siblings, parents or even grandparents in few behavioral traits, however our personality will be very different from them. As we know, we are all created in the image and likeness of God. So does God have a personality? Of course, YES. Our God is a triune God and each of the Godhead has a distinctive personality, however is in perfect harmony with each other. We normally get to study about the persona of the Father and the Son, but nothing much about the Holy Spirit.

Let us open the treasure book and find the Holy Spirit.

The Persona of the Holy Spirit

Teach me to do Your will,
For You are my God;
Your Spirit is good.
Lead me in the land of uprightness.

Psalms 143:10

But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me.

John 15:26

But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.

1 Corinthians 12: 11

And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

Ephesians 4:30

The Holy Spirit is good and is the Spirit of truth. He has a will of His own which is in perfect alignment with the will of the other Godheads. However, unlike the other personalities of the trinity, Holy Spirit is very gentle and sensitive. We already learned about the Father God (The anger of God) that in all unrighteousness and ungodliness, His wrath is revealed. However, with Holy Spirit the emotion is different. In Isaiah 63:10 we read “But they rebelled and grieved His Holy Spirit;”. Ungodliness and unrighteousness grieves Him. He is very sensitive. And probably, this is the reason why Jesus taught us not to blaspheme against the Holy Spirit and that such a sin is considered unpardonable.

“Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men. Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come.

Matthew 12: 31 – 32

Assuredly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they may utter; but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is subject to eternal condemnation”— because they said, “He has an unclean spirit.”

Mark 3: 28- 30

Blasphemy is the offence of speaking in a manner showing lack of respect especially against God or sacred things. It is basically profane talk. Being disrespectful to Holy spirit and blasphemy against the Spirit will not be tolerated anytime. There is no forgiveness to such a sin – it is Unpardonable. In fact, such a person is subject to eternal condemnation. The Holy Spirit is treated with utmost respect by every persona of the trinity and expects us to do the same.

Here, Matthew 12 and Mark 3 reports the same event. When Jesus continued healing and freeing people from bondage of evil spirits, the Pharisees said Jesus is doing all this with the help of an unclean spirit. This is a blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. So be careful about what we speak about the work of Holy Spirit done through His people all around the world. Let it not be a blasphemy resulting in eternal condemnation.

So in conclusion, Holy Spirit is good, always truthful, very gentle & sensitive having a will of His own. More of His persona will be revealed to you in your personal walk with Him.

The role of Holy Spirit in our lives

Ephesians 1:13 states, when we accept Jesus as our savior, we are sealed with His Spirit. This spirit of God dwells with us and in us. The worldly man who is controlled by the desires of his flesh (Galatians 5:19-21), will not know him and cannot receive him.

If you are not saved, invite Jesus to your heart today and confess Him with your mouth to accept Him as your savior and the Spirit of God will come and abide with you and in you!!!

This concept is similar to that seen in the business world. If a big firm acquires a smaller company, a representative or a group of representatives are sent to the newly acquired organization to overlook their affairs, help them and guide them in following the company polices, rules and regulation.

Similarly, once we accept Jesus, the Holy Spirit lives with us and in us as a representative of the triune God overlooking our affairs and offering us guidance and counsel.

Let us look into the major roles of the Holy spirit in our lives as a representative of the triune Godhead.

And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever.

John 14:16

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

John 14:26

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen.

2 Corinthians 13:14

The major role of Holy Spirit in our lives is that He is our Helper who abides with us and in us. He is also our teacher who teaches us all things about God, being Godly and righteous. He is also in communion with us. Communion is a close relationship with someone in which feelings and thoughts are exchanged. So he is in a relationship with us, one that is similar to a friend / Soul mate.

Treasures uncovered

The Holy Spirit is good, always truthful, very gentle & sensitive having a will of His own. More of His persona will be revealed in our personal walk with Him.

Blasphemy against the Holy spirit and being disrespectful to Him will not be tolerated anytime. It is an unpardonable sin and will never be forgiven. Such a person is under eternal condemnation.

Holy Spirit is our Helper, our Teacher and most of all our Friend and Soul Mate.

Once He comes to live in us, there are also many provisions made available to us – freedom, hope, life, secrets of God, strength, counsel, guidance and so on. He will do His part no matter what, however in order to properly make use of this helper in our life, we too should invest time in the relationship and be sensitive to His voice in our lives.

Prayer:

Father, we thank you for this valuable lesson on the Holy Spirit. We thank you for sending Him to live in us and with us. Holy Spirit, we thank you for being our helper, our teacher and our friend. Thank you for all the counsel and guidance you provide us. Help us to be sensitive to your voice. Help us not to grieve you nor sin against you. Please reveal more of you in our lives. In Jesus’ name Amen.

Getting to know Jesus

It is Christmas Eve. The best time of the year!!! A time filled with happiness and rejoicing. Even the air we breathe feels good during this time. Family dinners, Carol singing, gifts, brownies, cookies, Christmas Crib, Christmas tree, Santa Claus and decorations are few things that comes to mind when we think about Christmas. But the actual reason for this season is JESUS CHRIST. Even though God, He chose to leave the comfort of heaven and be born as a human to endure the cross, out of pure love for His creation – the human kind, including you and me. There is no other time better than this to get to know him, if you do not know him already.

Let us open the treasure book to find “JESUS”.

OPENING THE TREASURE BOOK undefined

Clue1: Introducing Jesus

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.

John 1:1‭-‬2

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.

Colossians 1:15‭-‬17

Jesus was in the beginning with God. He is the Word of God, the image of God and first born over all creation. All things in heaven and earth were created by Him, through Him and for Him. He is Son of God, the Word of God and God himself.

Clue2: The Life of JESUS on Earth

The divine birth

In God’s appointed time, He sent His son to be born as a human to fulfil the eternal plan of salvation. First time in the history of man kind, a child was born to a virgin. The birth of this child – Jesus, even divided the timeline of the world into two eras – BC and AD. The devil tried to kill baby Jesus by the hand of Herod. But God gave visions to His parents and sustained them. Jesus grew in wisdom, favor and stature with God and with men.

The ministry

When Jesus was about 30 years, He got baptized by John the Baptist and the Holy Spirit descended on Him. From that time on, He started preaching the Kingdom of Heaven. Love and Compassion are two main characteristics we see all through His life. He was also impartial and was friends with specially those who were outcast – the sinners and the tax collectors. He taught the people, preached the kingdom, healed the sick, raised the dead, cast out evil spirits and did many wonders and miracles.

The suffering and death

In the olden days, once a year Israelites sacrificed an animal for the atonement of sins of all their people. Jesus became this lamb who was sacrificed for the Sin of the world. He was beaten brutally, mocked, cursed, ridiculed and crucified with thieves – all for no crime of His, but for doing the good He did. He died once and for all – a perfect lamb sacrificed for the sins of the whole of humankind. His blood bought us pardon from the punishment we deserve because of the multitude of sins we commit. He gave His life as a ransom for our sins and redeemed us from the clutches of sin. He took our punishments and in exchange gave us eternal life.

The resurrection

The people who crucified Him made sure His grave was sealed so well that no one would be able to remove the covering stone. They also kept guards to watch over. Little did they know that these weren’t strong enough to hold back Jesus. The grave cloths could not hold on to Him, the grave could not contain Him and Death could not detain Him. He rose back to life on the third day as He promised. Jesus ascended to heaven in the presence of His disciples. He is still alive and is the same Yesterday, today and forever.

Most people know these facts about Jesus. This doesn’t mean you know Him on a personal level.

Clue 3: Knowing Him intimately

To get to know someone on a personal level and to share an intimate relationship him / her, we need to spend more time with that person. This will help us to understand their likes and dislikes, behavioral traits and so on. So to get to know Jesus intimately, we need to spend more time with Him. We learned that He is the Word of God. Spending time meditating the scriptures will help us to get to know Him better – to know His likes, dislikes and other behavioral traits. Spend time talking to Him in prayer and hearing from Him.

Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him.

I John 2:3‭-‬5

If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him.”

John 14:7

The scripture gives us a test to check if we really know Him well. If we know Him intimately, we will Keep His commandments and walk in His ways. If we are not doing so, it means what we do not know Him so well as we think.

If we should keep His commands, we should know them first. We get to know it from the scriptures. So read the scriptures regularly to get to know His commands and meditate on it to get to know Him, to walk in His ways and to do His will. Also if we know Jesus, it means we also know the Father.

And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

Mathew 7: 23

But on the other hand, if you do not walk in His ways doing His will, then the entry to the Kingdom of God will be denied. Our Code of Conduct is to imitate God and walk in His ways.

Treasures uncovered

JESUS is Son of God, the Word of God and God Himself.

To know Him intimately on a personal level we need to spend more time with Him – meditating the scriptures and hearing from Him.

If we know Him intimately, we will Keep His commandments and walk in His ways. If we know Jesus, we also know the Father.

Prayer:

Father, we thank you for the divine plan of salvation. Thank you Jesus for enduring the cross for our sake. We want to know you on a personal level. We long for an intimate relation with you. Father, reveal the treasures of scripture to us. Help us to keep your commands and walk in your ways. In Jesus name, Amen.

Staying Connected

We all use smartphones, tablets, laptops, etc., in our day-to-day lives. In fact, these gadgets along with internet connectivity play a major role in our lives. It is even hard to imagine a life without them… They help us in our studies, ease our daily tasks to a great extend, help us to stay connected to people, help us to listen to music, watch movies, play games etc. However, to connect to internet on these devices, we need to switch on the Wi-Fi/ mobile data on them. If not, even if the internet connection is available for use, we won’t be connected.

Staying connected to God also follows a similar principle. His presence is everywhere. However, to stay connected to him, we need to switch on our Wi-Fi/mobile data buttons. And what is that? Let us open the treasure book and find out clues!!!

OPENING THE TREASURE BOOK undefined

Clue 1: Our Wi-Fi Button

John 14:16-17, Ephesians 1:13

And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.

John 14:16-17

In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise

Ephesians 1:13

Jesus before leaving the earth, promised His disciples that He will give a Helper – the spirit of truth who will abide with us forever. When we accept Jesus as our savior, we are sealed with His Spirit – The Spirit of Truth – The Holy spirit. This spirit of God dwells with us and in us. The worldly man who is controlled by the desires of his flesh (Galatians 5:19-21), will not know him and cannot receive him.

If you are saved, Holy Spirit lives with you and inside you.

If you are not saved, invite Jesus to your heart today and confess Him with your mouth to accept Him as your savior and the Spirit of God will come and abide with you and in you!!!

Clue 2: Our Wi-Fi Button

John 14:26, 1 Corinthians 2:9-14

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

John 14:26
1 Corinthians 2:9-14 (To read this bible portion click on this video)

We humans are made of Body, Soul and Spirit. Only a man’s spirit knows the deep things inside him. When you have a secret plan or you have a secret desire, only your own spirit will know it. Your friends, your siblings, your parents or others will not know it unless you reveal it to them. Similarly, only the Spirit of God knows what is in the mind of God and no one else knows the things of God except the Spirit of God – the Holy Spirit. He searches the mind of God and reveals to us the deep secrets of God and revelations from God. The Holy spirit helps us to understand the things that are freely given to us by God. The Holy Spirit also reminds us of the things of God and teaches us the wisdom of God. This wisdom is not understood by the world.

Now we know that Holy Spirit knows all the deep secrets of God and He lives inside us. So to stay connected to God, our Wi-Fi button is the Holy Spirit!!!

Clue 3: Switching on the Wi-Fi Button

All those who have accepted Jesus as their savior has the wifi button – the Holy Spirit. But if the button is not switched on, we cannot stay connected even though the connection is available. This means, even though the Holy Spirit lives inside us, and is available for us, we cannot stay connected to God if we are not sensitive to His Spirit – the Holy Spirit.

Holy Spirit is always speaking to us, guiding us, teaching us and helping us in everything. But, if we do not identify His voice, then we cannot make use of the help and guidance available to us. Listen to that still voice that speaks inside of you, guiding your steps and stopping you from doing wrong. Haven’t you felt someone from inside you warning you when you are about to do something wrong, speak something wrong or watch something wrong? Or at times when you do not know which way to go forward, there is that inner voice strongly urging you to choose a particular path. Be sensitive to that voice, listen and obey… Each time you obey that voice, it becomes clearer and audible… So you become more sensitive to His voice. Also praying in the spirit – praying in tongues helps you to become more sensitive to the Holy Spirit.

But if you do not listen to the voice or obey it, the voice becomes feeble within you and other voices from outside will rule over your mind. The devil will take advantage of this situation and put his voice in your head and that voice only leads you to destruction. Be alert and do not let that happen to you.

By being sensitive to Holy Spirit, you listen to His voice, His teachings, His guidance, revelations and the wisdom of God.

To stay connected to God, be sensitive to the Holy Spirit, listen to His voice and obey His voice.

Treasures uncovered

Everyone who has accepted Jesus Christ as their savior has Holy Spirit living with them and inside them

Holy Spirit searches the mind of God and knows the deepest secrets of God

To stay CONNECTED to God, be SENSITIVE to the HOLY SPIRIT, Listen & Obey His voice

Prayer:

Father we thank you for the Spirit of God whom you have sent as a helper to live with us and inside of us. Help us to be sensitive to the Holy spirit and be attentive to Him. Help us to stay connected to you always and walk in your ways, In Jesus name Amen!
